Phillip, a 37-year-old financial executive worked on average 65 hours a week for 15 years. Traveling frequently, he often ate “on the fly”. Back in college, Phillip was a 2-sport varsity athlete. Yet, in the last five years Phillip developed weight issues. He also was dealing with a nagging back injury, which was slow to recover and quick to aggravate. He also noticed his stamina to put in twelve-to-fifteen-hour-days was waning. While his career had been tremendously successful, it came at a serious cost to Phillip’s health. He wanted to regain control of his body and overall health, maybe even play soccer again in an over-thirty league.
“Balance and control” was what Phillip said he wanted back in his life. He loved his career and was very proud of all he had accomplished, but knew he couldn’t keep up his pace without making changes. He just didn’t know what to do, as every time he tried to workout, his bad back would flare up.
After his initial consult, we began Phillip’s Phase IV program with comprehensive assessments. Conducting Structural, Nutritional, Metabolic and Technique assessments, it was determined that Philip needed to focus primarily on his strength and flexibility. While he concentrated his efforts here he could simultaneously improve his conditioning and dial in his nutrition both at home and on the road. It was determined the best way to achieve his conditioning goals would be to cycle, putting the least amount of pressure on his injured back. The following comprehensive program was designed for Phillip:
Philip was able to develop his strength and flexibility and solve his nagging back issues. The solid foundation and adaptations he made including the use of orthotics made sports fun again and unlocked the athleticism he had left behind to forge his career. Philip's consistent exercise and understanding of his nutritional needs allowed him to drop all of his unwanted fat, and he has kept it off.
