Ben, a 57-year-old family man was very concerned about putting on a few pounds and not sleeping very well. He was finding it more and more difficult to keep up with the pace his job demanded. He had been moderately active but recently stopped playing on a local softball team because a nagging injury to his knee. After a visit to his doctor for a routine physical, Ben realized he had to do something to feel better and deal with the reality of aging. He wanted to get in better shape and recapture his health.
Ben began his Phase IV experience with an in depth consult with a Performance Specialist to evaluate and assess his past history in sports, injuries, and medical assessment. Ben mentioned in the consult that his doctor had given him a prescription for Physical Therapy to manage his knee injury, but didn’t take it as seriously as he should have and never acted on it. Finally, the expert Phase IV staff analyzed his history and developed a program to achieve his goals with a realistic solution to deal with his injury and start him on a modest regiment to get back into shape.
Ben’s first assignment was to get his knee healthy, as it would contribute to other maladies if left untreated. He then began a moderate strength program to improve his overall strength and flexibility and greatly reduce the likelihood of additional injuries. While he concentrated his efforts here he could simultaneously learn more about his nutritional shortcomings, which as it turned out were contributing to his restless sleep.
Ben’s program was immediately activated and his knee was on the mend. His Strength program was working wonders and his new approach to diet was allowing him to feel better throughout the day and sleep through the night. Ben signed up for the softball league again and was much more active with his family.
