Personal Background
The Anderson’s, a family of four who have a history of obesity, are told by their family doctor they are overweight and need to lose weight.
Prescribed Solution
The Anderson’s met with Phase IV's Registered Dietitian for a consultation where she was able to explain the strategy to make the dietary changes necessary to put them on the proper pathway to a healthier lifestyle.
Based on our initial assessment consult, a Phase IV RD made a home visit and re-organized the Anderson kitchen. Following the HOME ASSESSMENT, the RD and Anderson family went on a SUPERMARKET TOUR and gave them a complete understanding, along with “do’s” and “don’ts” and common pitfalls.
- FORM: Once the RD provided the Anderson’s with a more knowledgeable foundation, a Physical Therapist conducted a head- to-toe Structural Exam, assessing everyone’s current structural strengths, weaknesses, and imbalances. This was important as the Anderson's exercised very little, making them susceptible to injury.
- FULL SEASON STRENGTH: Prescribed for the kids, was a personalized training program to instruct them in core strength, posture exercises, periodization weight training, stretching, and plyometric exercises specific to each phase. The program was designed to prepare them for physical activity.
- STRUCTURE: This program was prescribed for the parents as a starting point for general conditioning. This professionally designed and personalized Periodization flexibility and strength program was designed to be simple and easily performed at home. The essential exercises necessary to achieve functional stability of the pelvis, core, and shoulder girdle were the focus.
- FUEL NUTRITION COUNSELING: Personalized dietary analyses for macro and micronutrients were determined by the RD to adjust the Anderson’s diet in order to program their bodies to burn fats (we call this being a Better Butter Burner). Weekly meetings helped keep the Anderson's on track by ensuring they met all their nutritional needs, setting new nutritional goals, and continuously making any program adjustments to accommodate their busy schedules.
Results
The Anderson’s made the nutritional and lifestyle adjustments, having much healthier choices in the house and a greater understanding of portion sizes. They also added a moderate exercise program into their weekly routines. As a family they lost over 100 pounds in just six months. The kids became active in school sports and were much happier.
